Following on the heels of their comeback single 'Satellite' earlier this year, The Smallgoods are pleased to announce the release of the second single from their upcoming album Lost in the Woods.
'Hurry Up & Slow Down' is a lilting pop lullaby that harks back to doo-wop groups of the 50s and early 60s. It is an ode to taking it easy: of chasing down the weekend, and of rushing as fast as you can to a place and time where you can slide down into the bubble bath and do absolutely nothing at all.
The sparse, choppy, guitar driven arrangement allows space for The Smallgoods' strengths to shine through – Ben Mason’s delicate vocal melody is ushered through the track on a bed of lush backing vocals and floating basslines.
With band members having pursued other music interests with groups such as The Zebras, Architecture in Helsinki, Monnone Alone and Murphy's Hardware, The Smallgoods recently came out of their seven-year hiatus to bring us their first new music in well over a decade – the brilliant, jangly 'Satellite' single.
'Hurry Up & Slow Down' was recorded as part of the Lost in the Woods album sessions, a fully self-produced venture which took place in a secluded hideaway studio nestled in the lush forest of the Dandenong Ranges just outside of Melbourne.
