Ahead of their debut album release, winsome Melbourne superstars Hideous Towns are releasing two gorgeously reverb-laden tracks to whet the dreampop appetite.
With a pile-up of early-Cure guitars and Alana West's customarily heartfelt vocals, ‘Don’t Forget’ is an empowering d-floor filler with a ‘look-within-oneself-for-true-happiness’ ethos — a shoegazer’s ‘Dancing With Myself’ maybe.
‘Wake Us’ slows the tempo and draws inspiration from Irving Stone’s Vincent Van Gogh biography Lust For Life. In the song, Alana imagines the life of Van Gogh’s prostitute girlfriend Christine following the couple’s break-up; the addition of Jarred Dexter’s sublime viola, delivers the song into a hazy, uneasy narcosis.
As with Hideous Towns’ previous ‘Heart Attack / Skin’ 7” single, Matthew Hosking produced the new tracks at Los Bomberos studios in Melbourne’s inner-north.
Stay tuned for the debut Hideous Towns album in late-2016.
