about

Melbourne Cans return with 'A Shape in the River', the first taste of their second longplayer Heat of the Night – out July 13, 2018 on Lost And Lonesome.

Amid a rush of exuberant guitar strum and organ vibrato, debonaire vocalist Ian Wallace reflects upon a doomed relationship in which one member of the union has an underlying anger that can only survive by feeding off the happiness of the other... And by dragging their remains down into the depths of the river.

The emotive melodrama served up on 'A Shape in the River' is suggestive of the album's primary inspiration as a whole – film noir and neo-noir. Angel Heart, Body Double, Assault on Precinct 13, Body Heat, Chinatown.... Steeped in the stink and sweat of the city, Heat of the Night pays homage to these grimy, shadowy thrillers.

Having promptly disappeared from sight (and consequently avoided certain superstardom) upon the release of their debut album, 2014's Moonlight Malaise, Melbourne Cans are back with a lustful desire to play every two-bit dive bar in town and familiarise the world with their new set of fatalist classic pop tunes.
