about

Following on from the acclaimed eponymous debut album of 2014, the Julia/Spring 7" single is another deep shot of Lowtide's euphoric dream pop.

Recorded in Melbourne by Matthew Hosking (VHS Dream), 'Julia' was originally written and recorded in 1988 by the French band Asylum Party. Driven by mechanical rhythms and buzz-saw guitar leads, the blissful dual vocals of Lucy Buckeridge and Giles Simon lend the Lowtide version a hazy glow that transcends the cold wave original.

'Spring', a Lowtide original, was recorded by Gareth Parton (The Go! Team, Foals) during the album sessions for Lowtide and displays what the Melbourne four-piece do best — Buckeridge and Simon combining forces on both vocals and bass, guitarist Gabriel Lewis layering lustrous washes of melody and drummer Anton Jakovljevic steering, head down, through the entire glorious racket.

With album number one having amassed 4 and 4-and-a-half-star reviews in many of the nation’s rags, and with a string of sold out shows (and not to mention an AMP nomination), Lowtide are preparing themselves for what adventures may lay ahead… The Julia/Spring 7” single is an exhilarating stopover.
